Sara Beth Verm
Executive Function Skills Coach
Office Manager
A little bit about me…
I have a Bachelor’s degree in English from Davidson College in NC.
I volunteered as a leader with a youth ministry called Young Life. My husband and I spent a year in Venezuela working with Young Life in Latin America. I also spent time coordinating a statewide leadership forum in NC for college students. Because I’m passionate about developing relationships with young people, I worked in Higher Education as a Resident Director at Houston Baptist University (now Houston Christian University), mentoring RA’s and facilitating community life.
I’m currently the Office Manager for the Center for Intention & Focus and have held many administrative roles over the years in everything from catering to car dealerships.
Most importantly, I’m a Mom to 4 kids. One of my teens is Neurodivergent with multiple diagnoses, including ADHD, which offers relevant experience with the challenges of attention difficulties. We’ve done Neurofeedback with our child as well as Psychotherapy.
Why am I interested in EF Coaching?
Executive Function Skills Coaching seems an ideal fit for my skillset plus it’s personal for me. I’ve watched my child struggle to tackle homework, forget to do chores around the house, live in a messy room for years and wrestle with strong emotions, among many challenges. I have compassion for those who feel the effects of ADHD and have witnessed the frustration on many fronts.
What is EF Coaching exactly?
Individuals who have weak Executive Function skills experience hardship with things like focus, attention, task initiation, organization, planning/prioritizing and emotional control, among other struggles.
Learning to improve these skills becomes more manageable when someone (other than a parent or spouse) comes alongside to provide clarity, direction and encouragement. Frequent gentle reminders and “check-ins” in the form of face to face interaction, video conferencing, phone calls and text messages provide a level of accountability.
Over the course of time, research has proven that coaching of this kind achieves significant success in reaching desired goals. Simply put, these methods work!
Peg Dawson & Richard Guare are experts in the field of Executive Function Skills Coaching. I’ve had the privilege to learn directly from them. I’m also under the supervision of Mark Sperber, who’s a licensed professional counselor, marriage and family therapist and is also board certified in Neurofeedback.
I’d love to help!
