Angela Bouma
Executive Function Skills Coach
A little bit about me…
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton. My background is in Health and Wellness Coaching and Change Management Consulting. In both roles, I’ve enjoyed supporting others as they navigate change and build habits that help them make real progress toward their goals.
My husband and I spent time living in Ecuador, an experience that had a lasting impact on me. We now volunteer with Refugee Care Collective, supporting families as they rebuild and adjust to a new life. This work that has deepened my appreciation for the power of presence and support.
I’m a mom to three amazing kids, including a son with ADHD. This is something we navigate in our own home, and I know how much time and patience it can take to figure out what actually works. At the same time, I’ve seen firsthand how small changes can make a big difference.
Why am I interested in EF Coaching?
Executive Function Skills Coaching blends my professional experience of championing others toward their goals with my lived experience of raising a son with ADHD. I have seen how much can change with the right support, patience, and implementing small steps in the right direction. I love watching that shift happen, when someone starts to feel more confident and realizes they’re capable of more than they thought.
What is EF Coaching exactly?
Individuals who have weak Executive Function skills experience hardship with things like focus, attention, task initiation, organization, planning/prioritizing and emotional control, among other struggles.
Learning to improve these skills becomes more manageable when someone (other than a parent or spouse) comes alongside to provide clarity, direction and encouragement. Frequent gentle reminders and “check-ins” in the form of face to face interaction, video conferencing, phone calls and text messages provide a level of accountability.
Over the course of time, research has proven that coaching of this kind achieves significant success in reaching desired goals. Results, however, are largely determined by the efforts you invest. Coaching is a comprehensive process that may involve different areas of your life, including work, finances, health, relationships, education and recreation. The focus is the development and implementation of strategies to reach client-identified goals of enhanced performance and personal satisfaction.
Executive Functioning services are not considered psychotherapy or psychological services.
