Why I became a Psychologist

I became a psychologist due my desire to help others and understand people and the factors that influence who they are as well as what contributes to different problems and emotional distress.

I developed a special interest in evaluation and assessment in terms of how the brain works and determining an individual’s strengths and weaknesses that lend to how they learn and interact with others and their environment.

Education and Experience

I have worked many years with young children, adolescents, and adults, along with their families, primarily in educational and school settings. I am a Licensed Psychologist and a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. I received a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology in the College of Education from Texas A&M University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Stephen F. Austin University. My undergraduate degree is a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin.

After completing an internship from the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, I began working at the Houston Independent School District. I was employed with HISD for 27 years and was formerly a Senior Psychologist and a Lead LSSP.

​As a licensed psychologist for over 30 years, I have specialized in psychological and educational assessment, focusing on assisting children, adolescents, adults, and their families with understanding learning and emotional difficulties and needs.

I have extensive experience in working and consulting with special education students, parents of students, teachers, and staff in school settings. I have experience assessing the need for accommodations and recommendations for students with disabilities for school, university, and work settings. I am active in local and state professional associations and was previously elected President of the Houston Psychological Association and served as a board member of the Houston Psychological Association. I am currently a member of the Texas Psychological Association and Houston Psychological Association.

Just for Fun

Personally, I am married and have three boys, twins and a younger son, who are now young adults. I am a native Houstonian and sixth generation Texan. I grew-up in Bellaire, Texas, and was fortunate to raise my children in Bellaire.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching sports, traveling and going to Galveston. I volunteer in several local community organizations, such as Alumni and Friends of Bellaire High School and the HLSR Wine Committee.
