James Vernon, MA, MSc
LPC Practicum Student
A little bit about me…
We live in a fast-paced, hustle culture that often rewards pushing through – at the cost of rest, clarity, and well-being. Many highly sensitive (HSP) and neurodivergent adults appear capable on the outside, while privately feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected from themselves. This may also include those who have lived globally (adult Third-Culture Kids, expats, etc).
My approach is practical, warm, and grounding. I earned a Bachelor of Social Sciences from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (Japan), an MSc in Psychological & Psychiatric Anthropology from Brunel University (UK), and an MA in School Psychology from Trinity University. I spent nearly a decade living abroad in East and Southeast Asia, where I worked in education and media, and I have over a decade of experience supporting neurodivergent students in the U.S. public school system.
Why work with me?
When life feels intense, it’s easy to swing between avoidance and overthinking or pushing too hard. Over time, this cycle can lead to chronic stress, burnout, and losing contact with what’s most important to you. Much of my work focuses on helping clients find steadier, more sustainable ways of living and relating to their inner experience.
Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed parts work, and behavioral strategies, we’ll build self-trust, psychological flexibility, and clarity around what matters most to you. Our work may include learning to relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings, values exploration, and practicing pacing and self-compassion.
Just for fun.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling abroad with my family, training in traditional martial arts, and spending time in water.
Let’s talk!
If you’re looking for a supportive space to slow down, reconnect, and move forward with greater steadiness, I’d be glad to help.
